What I learned in church today

I know, I know, I’m sort of a slacker when comes to posting my thoughts on so many things. I always keep notes in church on what struck me as thought provoking. Our series titled The Reason has stimulated my thoughts but yet I failed to post my thoughts but today I’m doing it.

Going with the thought, “serve or be served” it is my thinking that we are all called to serve. Today’s scripture comes from Mark 10 32-45. Paraphrasing, Jesus is headed up to Jerusalem. Somewhere along the road, he tells of how He will be handed over to those powered, beaten, spit up on, etc, and killed but will rise again in three days. James and John are concerned about who is going to be in charge and who will sit on the right and left of Jesus. They are clearly thinking power. Jesus clearly states that those things aren’t important but what is important is serving others. ” So to make it perfectly clear, real leadership must involve serving others. It is not about being served. It is about giving oneself without worrying about personal gain and personal glory. I once did a research paper on servant leadership and it still rings true today.

But whoever would be great among you must be your servant,44 and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
